Creating beautiful bouncing curls can be easy by employing a few tricks of the trade. Selecting the right-sized theo rollers for the proper look is essential. In order to achieve the proper tightness and size of curl, the portion of hair to be curled must wrap around theo rollers at least one and a half times. If it does not, the curl will not hold its shape and it may slip off the roller.
In order to create a more realistic look, many stylists advise placing the hair in rollers in a staggered or “layered brick” effect. This creates the look of more natural, kinky curls. Setting the hair in rollers while it is still wet and brushing on a layer of jojoba, coconut or macadamia nut oil to the hair will ensure that the curl stays tight and bouncy for a longer period.
There are several types of curling rollers on the market including soft foam rollers, heated rollers, sponge rollers and Velcro rollers. With any type of roller, certain basic rules will produce beautiful curls. The first rule is to set the hair when it is wet. Brush the hair up into a section, place the roller at the end of the section of hair and roll it down, wrapping the hair tightly around the roller. As stated before, brushing on hair product at this time is extra insurance that the curl produced will remain tight and bouncy. To get varied sized of curls, stylist recommend using different sized-rollers. After the hair is wrapped around the roller and any product desired is added, secure a bobby pin to the top and bottom of the roller to hold the hair in place. Leave to set for 15 minutes. To create spiral curls, twist the section of hair before rolling it up on the roller as described above.
